31 July 2011

we made it- the end of july!

it's almost here.  august.  tomorrow will actually be the first day of the last month of summer.  i know, many of you are probably starting to get sad... but oh my god am i ready for fall!  fall is my favorite season of the year and, to be frank, it's too damn hot.  it's bad.

i haven't been blogging lately about what we have been up to, because as previously mentioned (multiples times) we aren't doing much.  but here's a few pics of our city park jazz picnic last weekend with special guest: BREWSTER!

yesterday got off to a rough start.  brew and i went for a run that didn't quite go as planned, so we returned home to do yard work.  that's one thing that my runs are good for: front yard inspiration.  there are so many awesome ideas i see while jogging through our neighborhood - people here are really good at doing the best with what they've got and some yards are really creative, especially since most of these homes are on hills leading towards the lake.  our house always comes up short... we have a tendency to neglect the front until it looks really really bad.  and yesterday was the day we finally decided to do something about it.  it wasn't any major work, but it's definitely an improvement!

this is how many vines we cut down. seriously.

i potted some pretties :)

who doesn't love marigolds? so happy!

even the roses look happier after some much-needed rose food.

we got up today in pools of sweat to do some housework.  after our chores were done we decided to head over to the dragon boat festival, held just a few blocks away at sloan's lake.  luckily we were able to ride our bikes over (as we've been trying to do all summer) and met up with our super-cool cousin ryan, home from college for another week.  IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!  and it would have been even more fun if it wasn't 100+ degrees outside, so unfortunately we only stayed about an hour or so.  but that didn't stop us from enjoying that hour!

well folks that's about it for today - time for me to make dinner!  we are having pesto pizza and watching it's complicated :)
