U2 countdown day 10: bad

i am obsessed with U2.  this is probably unknown to many of you, but the rest of you are probably rolling your eyes right now.  that's ok.  but philip, aj and i are going to the U2 concert next saturday and i am starting to get beyond psyched.  i've started the process of listening strictly to U2 in order to get even more excited and make sure i have all my lyrics in check.  now i know there are probably a lot of U2-haters out there, but i really think that's because you just don't understand.  bono is not just an amazing lyricist, but he's a poet.  the words to his songs are so beautiful.  so in honor of the misunderstood bono and how excited i am, i am doing a countdown to the concert.  every day i will post the lyrics to one of my favorite U2 songs ever.  not the songs themselves - just the lyrics.  think of it as a poem a day.  it's also my 10 best of U2 songs.

today we start with bad, one of my favorites.  from the 1984 album the unforgettable fire.

if you twist and turn away.
it you tear yourself in two again.
if i could, yes i would
if i could, i would let it go.
surrender, dislocate.

if i could throw this lifeless life-line to the wind.
leave this heart of clay, see you walk, walk away
into the night, and through the rain
into the half light and through the flame.

if i could, through myself, set your spirit free
i'd lead your heart away, see you break, break away
into the light and to the day.

to let it go and so to find away.
to let it go and so to find away.
i'm wide awake.
i'm wide awake, wide awake.
i'm not sleeping.

if you should ask, then maybe
they'd tell you what i would say
true colours fly in blue and black
blue silken sky and burning flag.
colours crash, collide in blood-shot eyes.

if i could, you know i would
if i could, i would let it go.

this desperation, dislocation
separation, condemnation
revelation, in temptation
isolation, desolation
let it go and so to find away
to let it go and so to find away
to let it go and so to find away

i'm wide awake, I'm wide awake, wide awake
i'm not sleeping
Oh no, no, no.
